Status: Leave replacement for 25-26, Full-Time Exempt, Academic Year, Benefits-eligible 

Salary Range: $60,000-$100,000

Start Date: August 14, 2025

SUMMARY:

The Masters School seeks a flexible, creative educator to contribute to our Visual Arts Program which strives to be a cutting edge, comprehensive and enticing program that prepare students for their lives after Masters. We are seeking to welcome a team player on board who will collaborate with our other arts faculty and other faculty across departments and divisions. 

The ideal candidate is highly adaptive and has a commitment to keep up to date with arts education. They are eager to engage with a curriculum that responds to those trends and leverages their experience and skills with an eye towards delivering a forward-looking program to students at Masters. A clearly articulated passion for both traditional/analogue and contemporary/digital media is essential, and practical experience creating and exhibiting art is a significant plus.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a full-time position in a dynamic program that intends to respond to evolving student interests and technological developments. The duties include a teaching load of 4 or 5 credits per semester. The instructional part of the position is defined by teaching a variety of creative  art forms, including both traditional studio art modalities (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture), and digital photography, that balance artistic creativity with technical production and problem solving. The teacher in this role will be able to follow curriculum in place while putting their own individual spin on the delivery of the lessons.

  • AP Art & Design (full year)
  • Advanced Studio Art (full year course)
  • Global Art History (2 semester courses)
  • Foundations in Studio Art (semester course)
  • Digital Photography (entry level semester course)

We expect this person to...

  • Provide learning experiences in a variety of studio media as well as a basic understanding of basic digital media (including Photoshop/Lightroom and Procreate), while creating an environment that is student centered.
  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
  • Encourage students’ documentation of art making and portfolio building throughout the year
  • Provide feedback to students both verbally and in writing, along with developing meaningful assessments.
  • Teach the skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to produce a variety of types of art works with an emphasis on the processes involved.
  • Work collaboratively with existing department faculty to ensure proper teaching/learning and assessment goals.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Understanding of and desire to work with upper school students.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in learning about the artistic development of adolescents.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently.
  • Knowledge of the demands of the professional field, and of the tools, technologies and resources inherent to the discipline.
  • At least a combined three years of direct experience in an artistic practice and education.
  • Degree in Education and/or teaching credential preferred. 
  • Advanced Degree in the visual arts preferred.
  • AP teaching experience preferred.
