The Specialist/Senior Specialist, Technical Operations Communications is part of Global Engagement, a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company’s actions, along with its engagement with internal and external stakeholders, to help build and protect the American Airlines brand and reputation. Specifically, this individual supports the communications needs of the Technical Operations organization, shaping and executing timely, clear and strategic communications initiatives for the team that helps keep American’s operation running safely.

• Manage and support internal and external communications channels to effectively reach Technical Operations team members, leadership and support staff, as well as media.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of American’s Technical Operations and business practices and the broader airline industry.
• Work to educate media and other stakeholders on American, keeping all key stakeholders informed and updated along the way. Develop and maintain important relationships with key reporters, handling media on site at events.
• Develop and execute compelling communications strategies around sensitive and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines. Work on real-time business issues with American’s leadership team and drive the company’s internal positioning.
• Uphold the integrity of the Global Engagement team by developing and maintaining strong relationships with leaders across the company.
• Provide support and content for other company channels as needed.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training.
· 3 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
· Knowledge of and/or experience in aviation and the commercial airline industry.
· Knowledge of and/or experience in aircraft maintenance and aviation safety.

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

· 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
· Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization.

The Specialist/Senior Specialist, Technical Operations Communications is part of Global Engagement, a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company’s actions, along with its engagement with internal and external stakeholders, to help build and protect the American Airlines brand and reputation. Specifically, this individual supports the communications needs of the Technical Operations organization, shaping and executing timely, clear and strategic communications initiatives for the team that helps keep American’s operation running safely.

• Translate complex operational and corporate initiatives into clear, actionable messaging that resonates with team members.
• Strengthen understanding of business decisions and operational changes by developing comprehensive communications plans, executive messaging, media materials, process guides and stories that highlight the impact and importance of Technical Operations within the broader American narrative.
• Manage and support internal and external communications channels to effectively reach Technical Operations team members, leadership and support staff, as well as media.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of American’s Technical Operations and business practices and the broader airline industry.
• Work to educate media and other stakeholders on American, keeping all key stakeholders informed and updated along the way. Develop and maintain important relationships with key reporters, handling media on site at events.
• Develop and execute compelling communications strategies around sensitive and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines. Work on real-time business issues with American’s leadership team and drive the company’s internal positioning.
• Uphold the integrity of the Global Engagement team by developing and maintaining strong relationships with leaders across the company.
• Provide support and content for other company channels as needed.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training.
· 3 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
· Knowledge of and/or experience in aviation and the commercial airline industry.
· Knowledge of and/or experience in aircraft maintenance and aviation safety.

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

· 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations.
· Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization.

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

· Being hardworking and results-oriented and having the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
· Thriving in a fast-paced environment where you work under pressure and can meet critical deadlines both during normal business operations and after hours as warranted.
· The ability to make independent judgments and decisions while taking ownership of job responsibilities.
· Excellent time-management and project-management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
· Excellent written communication, verbal communication and presentation skills as well as strategic communications experience.
· Exercising sound business judgment and demonstrating professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
· Keen attention to detail and accuracy and a strong understanding of AP style and ability to following other style and branding guidelines.
· High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and digital signage platforms
· Graphic design experience helpful.
