Job Description
Essential Functions (critical to job function):
The Youth and Family Programs Manager (YFPM) develops, implements, and evaluates programs and services that serve LGBTQ+ youth and families throughout Chicago in alignment with Center on Halsted’s mission and departmental goals. This position requires the ability to develop new strategies and innovative approaches to address the evolving challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth and families. The YFPM must be able to manage multiple ongoing projects effectively with an eye toward impactful program and service delivery, using data and feedback to inform program improvements and demonstrate success. This role requires a leader who can work collaboratively with staff across Center departments as well as build meaningful partnerships with local organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance support networks. Finally, the YFPM must have strong interpersonal skills so they can build rapport and trust with youth, families, staff, and community members and lead safe and welcoming programs that foster an atmosphere of inclusion and respect among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage high-quality social, educational, recreational, cultural, and LGBTQ+ affirming programs across Chicagoland.
- Develop, implement, and manage high-quality programs across Chicagoland for parents of LGBTQ+ youth and LGBTQ+ families, including social events, cultural activities, educational workshops, peer-led support groups, advocacy training, and resource referrals.
- Develop and lead workshops, trainings, presentations and panels on issues of importance to LGBTQ+ youth and families to students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members across Chicagoland.
- Engage in community outreach, especially in underserved areas of Chicago.
- Conduct ongoing program evaluation and manage reporting requirements for funders
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community groups to enhance program impact, participation, and geographic reach.
- Promote programs and engage stakeholders through various communication streams, including the COH website, social media platforms, and e-newsletter.
- Work closely with Youth Programming colleagues and staff throughout COH to ensure all youth served by Center are supported and have access to YFS programs.
- Provide direct support and supervision at departmental programs and events as needed
- Develop appropriate relationships with youth and families to encourage participation in activities and ensure all feel welcomed and valued
- Participate in required meetings, including department meetings, committee meetings, all staff meetings, trainings, and group consultations.
- Document all services provided
- Maintain the highest level of client confidentiality and professionalism.
- Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned
Skills/Qualifications
- Five years’ experience: In youth and/or family program management.
Licensures: Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor preferred - Planning and Implementation: Skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services for youth and families.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, including scheduling, resource allocation, and logistics.
- Data Analysis: Ability to assess program effectiveness through data collection and analysis.
- Continuous Improvement: Skills in using feedback and evaluation results to make informed improvements to programs and services.
- Building Relationships: Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, youth, families, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of LGBTQ+ Identities: Awareness of the various identities within the LGBTQ+ community and the unique challenges they face, especially those impacting trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive youth and families, as well as youth and families of color.
- Cultural Competency: Ability to work sensitively and inclusively with people from diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
- Team Management: Experience in leading and motivating a team of staff, interns, and volunteers, including training and supervising them effectively.
- Conflict Resolution: Ability to address and resolve conflicts within the team or among program participants.
- Verbal and Written Communication: Clear and effective communication with youth, families, staff, and community partners. Ability to convey information in an accessible and supportive manner.
- Networking: Skills in connecting with other organizations and agencies to enhance program offerings and support.
- Event Coordination: Experience in organizing and managing engaging, inclusive, and smoothly executed events, workshops, and activities for youth and families, including event logistics, scheduling, venue arrangements, and participant coordination.

- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including regular evening hours and occasional weekend work (generally 2x per month).
- Must have access to a reliable car and a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and transport program supplies as needed for job-related duties.
- Must be highly organized, timely, demonstrate effective leadership skills, and be able to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English preferred, but not required
- Must pass a background check.
