The Office of the Chief Investment Officer of the Regents of the University of California (UC Investments) manages +$180 billion of endowment, retirement, and working capital assets under the policies, guidelines, and performance benchmarks established by the UC Board of Regents. POSITION SUMMARY

The UC Investments Office operates across multiple asset classes including public equity, private equity, private credit, real assets, real estate, and absolute return. The UC Investments Office has a full suite of business units including investments, data analytics, risk, ESG, finance, legal, compliance, among others. The Summer Analyst Intern will be responsible for supporting the asset class teams, with an emphasis on portfolio analytics and monitoring, quantitative analysis of prospective investment opportunities, and industry research. Interns may rotate across the floor based on needs of the Investment Office. This internship is onsite in Oakland, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Portfolio Monitoring

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative reviews of the investment portfolio.
  • Analyze performance attribution and performance benchmarking.
  • Create presentation and reporting materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor portfolio companies for the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Review portfolio with various business functions


30% - Investment Research

  • Support asset class teams to screen, monitor, and invest in attractive opportunities and investment managers through research, due diligence meetings, and portfolio analysis.
  • Support, track, and monitor all phases of the investment process , investment performance, and risk from various perspectives


30 % - Capstone Project

  • Complete and present the insights of a summer long capstone project focused on a theme or sector deep dive pertinent to the UC Investments Office.


QUALIFICATIONS



Required Qualifications

  • Understanding of and/or demonstrated interest in institutional investing and pension / endowment management.
  • Understanding of company financial statements and key financial performance and valuation ratios
  • Ability to independently conduct research projects and synthesize findings along tight timelines
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with an attention to detail.
  • Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at any of the University of California campuses OR
  • Obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of California within the last six (6) months


Education

  • Bachelor's degree received in the last six (6) months or an undergraduate degree in progress with expected graduation in 2026 to 2028.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in Oakland, CA. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California, or be willing to relocate, and will be required to report to work in person in Oakland, CA on a regular schedule.
  • The expected start date for this position is 6/2025 and students currently obtaining their undergraduate degree with a projected completion in 2026 and beyond will be considered.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
