Ellen's Bakery & Cafe has been serving baked goods, cakes, ice cream, cookies and breads for over 19 years. We began serving breakfast & brunch shortly thereafter, and have been going at capacity ever since.Once again we are honored to be nominated by WDIV as one of Metro Detroit's Best Breakfast Restaurants!
Service begins at 8 am every morning. Often, our guests are waiting at the door at this time. Business is good....
And we need a little help.
Serving guests from 8 months to 88 years old requires fast thinking, politeness, kindness, the ability to communicate quickly and clearly, organization, patience and a desire to Make Money !
SERVER RESPONSIBILTIES
• Greet customers and seat them in the order in which they arrive
• Familiarize customers with the menu and make appropriate suggestions when requested
• Take customer orders and relay them accurately to relevant team members
• Serve food and beverages
• Clear, properly clean and set tables between uses
• Collect payment from customers in a timely manner
• Assist in training new employees as required
• Anticipate guests' needs in order to facilitate and enjoyable dining experience
SERVER QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to exceed customer expectations
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Good attitude toward teamwork
• Strong work ethic, with a willingness to take initiative
• Confident, outgoing demeanor
• Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends
• Ability to be mobile for a minimum of 4 hours, bend, stoop and life a moderate weight
• Be of legal age to serve alcohol
• Food service certificate, alcohol awareness certificate
Closed on Mondays, to Be considered - any applicant must be available at least One Weekend Morning, and a minimum of 3 or 4 Shifts Per Week. There is also a strong possibility to Earn additional Shifts during our Dinner Hours ( Tues > Sat ). Great Tips!

Chef Ellen grew up in the Washington D.C. Suburbs of Virginia.
She studied theater and art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and then moved to Blacksburg, Virginia where she found a job in a local bakery. After seven years, she returned to the D.C. Area to work in a local restaurant before attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1988.
She met George in August of that year. Her extern from the CIA was spent at Ridgewells Caterer in Maryland, where she met her pastry mentor, Chef Karl Meuller. After graduation, she moved to Michigan to work at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids.
George and Ellen were married in 1992 and settled in Sylvan Lake one year later.
