Unicorn Hunter, partnered with Sage Home Loans is looking for experienced Senior/Government Underwriters to work on-site with a hybrid schedule in their Fort Mill, SC office! We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage Underwriter to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen and a deep understanding of mortgage lending processes. As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Your expertise will play a crucial role in making informed lending decisions that align with our company's goals.

What You’ll Do:

• Loan/Funding Request Evaluation: Analyze loan applications, including credit reports, income and asset documentation, appraisals, and other relevant documents.
• Risk Assessment: Determine the risk associated with each loan or funding request based on established guidelines and policies.
• Compliance: Ensure that all loans or funding requests meet the requirements of relevant government agencies (e.g., FHA, VA, USDA) and company policies.
• Decision-Making: Make independent decisions to approve or deny loan applications or funding requests.
• Condition Management: Review, update, and verify underwriting conditions to ensure they are met.
• Communication: Work with internal and external partners to gather necessary documentation and finalize the loan process.
• Data Verification: Verify the consistency of information throughout the loan file.
• Staying Informed: Keep up-to-date with industry announcements and regulations.
• Underwriting in an Automated Underwriting System environment
• Working in an Encompass based lender environment
• Other Duties: May include completing income calculation worksheets, managing loan pipelines, and contributing to process improvements.

What We’re Looking For:

• 4+ years of government mortgage underwriting experience
• Obtained DE and any other necessary certifications
• Ability to work in office with a hybrid schedule (Tuesday-Thursday in office)
• Strong Analytical Skills displaying the Ability to analyze financial data and assess risk.
• Familiarity with Government Agency Guidelines: Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, and other relevant agency requirements.
• Attention to Detail when reviewing and verifying loan documentation
• High level of communication both internally and externally
• Solution-oriented using knowledge and research
• Experience with Automated Underwriting Systems
• Working with Encompass Loan Origination System
• Strong math skills including all calculations related to loan ratios and other financial metrics.
• PC software applications including Word and Excel
• Working with Automated Underwriting Systems
• Working with Encompass Loan Origination System
• Mortgage and home equity loan/line products, services, pricing, tax and regulatory requirements
• Math concepts to support cash flow analysis
• FCRA, ECOA and other federal/state regulations regarding the extension of credit
• Underwrite salable residential mortgage and home equity loans/lines

Even Better:

• Assist with the expansion of the current business plan allowing for the origination and sale of first mortgage loans in the secondary market to multiple investors and the GSEs
• Assist senior staff and management in building a growing residential lending business
• Display sound negotiation skills and good business judgment when working with applicant(s) and outside lien holders to clear underwriting and title issues
• Adhere to and provide input for real estate loan processing procedures
• Provide direction to and/or assist in the development/training of support/processing staff if/when warranted

Pay: $105,577.00 - $170,935.00 per year
