What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Robotics Equipment Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams responsible for designing and producing exciting new technologies. The Robotics Equipment Engineer will be responsible for sustaining, improving, designing, and/or sourcing tooling and equipment. They will work closely with Test Engineering and Controls Engineers to maintain existing equipment and testers. Additionally, the Equipment Engineer will lead the development and improvement of equipment documentation and define new documentation standards where needed. The ideal candidate will have sound mechanical engineering fundamentals and be comfortable managing suppliers. This role requires hands-on involvement on the manufacturing line and emphasizes analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail.

What You'll Do

Develop expertise in manufacturing processes, analyze critical data, and understand equipment capabilities. Modify line layouts using Lean Manufacturing best practices to optimize material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics. Participate in the transition of products from concept to mass manufacturingOptimize production equipment to maximize safety and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), driving world-class quality levels. Lead continuous improvement projects to increase yield, capacity, and capabilityCommission and sustain automation processes utilizing FANUC robots, developing robot programs and Dual Check Safety functionality to ensure safe and efficient operation. Create or improve FANUC iRVision programs for to improve the accuracy and repeatability of fastening and pick-and-place operationsSupport 24/7 production operations as needed. Respond to equipment issues, perform maintenance escalations, and identify opportunities for design improvementsDesign new tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and equipment to enhance processes and yield. Conceptualize high-volume production equipment, prioritizing safety, cost, capacity, volumetric efficiency, and delivery timeDiagnose and resolve issues in the part manufacturing process, utilizing structured problem-solving techniquesUtilize CAD modeling and FEA structural analysis for new tooling/equipment, defining specifications and requirementsIdentify automation opportunities and collaborate with Automation/Control Engineers for design and implementation. Continuous improvement on the line and take end-to-end ownership to meet OEE of the line throughout the SPARC matrixConduct risk assessments for equipment under development and lead safety buyoffs before launchPossess working experience with tools such as SEW EURODRIVE, Atlas Copco Fastening tools, Hipot Testers, CTS Leak Testers, Weld Controllers, etc.

What You'll Bring

Degree in Engineering (preferred Mechanical or Mechatronics) or equivalent relevant experienceMinimum 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to safety best practices. Minimum 4 years of experience with 3D CAD design and analysis; SolidWorks required, CATIA a plus.Good understanding of Engineering Mechanics and Kinematics fundamentals. Minimum 3 years of experience with Fanuc Robot programming and troubleshooting. Minimum 3 years of experience with electrical design and modification; AutoCAD/EPLAN requiredExperience specifying mechanical and electromechanical hardware. Understanding of automation control systems PLC/HMI/SCADA and interfaces with software and factory databasesPLC troubleshooting (Siemens, Beckhoff), Atas Copco tooling exposure, Cognex/Keyence camera systems, EOAT (end of arm tooling) designStrong mechanical design and analysis skills, including pneumatics, sensors, motors, pumps, and actuatorsExperience sourcing and overseeing installation of large equipment projectsComfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad scope, displaying self-starting and proactive qualities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently or with minimal directionNice to have working experience with data visualization tools such as SQL and PythonCritical reasoning ability to effectively manage cross-functional resources based on business needs

Expected Compensation

$86,400 - $151,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
