Tesla’s Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of building cutting edge assembly lines and automation cells. This team is building the next generation assembly lines which allows our operations team to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate; in a safe and ergonomic environment. As part of the Manufacturing Engineering group – The Material Flow/Conveyance team is seeking a Robotics Engineer to focus on design and implementation robotic cells at Tesla.
Robotics engineers in the Material Flow/Conveyance Engineering team oversee end-to-end technical projects. This includes layout design, system design, safety design, equipment specification, implementation, process optimization, and collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and partners for robotic cell projects. They handle conveyance and storage systems for various vehicle components like car bodies, battery packs, drive units, large underbody castings, large General Assembly (GA) commodities such as seats, tires, instrument panels. Senior engineers additionally provide project leadership, ensure designs align with Tesla's goals, manage timelines, budgets, and vendor coordination.
What You'll Do Develop automated conveyance and storage solutions for maximum efficiency and valueCreate simulations and offline programs using tools like Roboguide and Process SimulateEnhance labor efficiency and optimize space utilizationDesign end-of-arm tools to improve reliability and reduce wasteDevelop safety concepts for robot cells and specify required equipmentLead design phases, specify equipment, and manage supplier relationshipsImplement robotic systems for material flow and design robotic cellsAdvance robot programming capabilities, including DCS, iRVision, and custom application codeManage internal and contractor projects with proper documentation and oversightCollaborate with third parties, develop analytical models, and provide cost estimates and technical project management
What You'll Bring Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience3-5+ years of extensive experience in robotic programming and applicationsProficient in robotic programming for brands like Fanuc (preferred), Yaskawa, KUKA, or similarHands-on experience in commissioning and programming industrial robotsSkilled in robotic mechanical and electrical troubleshootingExperience with robot simulation packages and offline programming using Roboguide or Process SimulateKnowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, HTML, and ROSProficient in CAD software, with preference for SolidWorksAbility to lead projects from concept to detailed design, implementation, and handoffStrong analytical and organizational skills to manage complex projects with high variation and uncertainty
