Position Summary

The position functions as an RN staff nurse in the division of geriatrics and functions in a combination of clinical and administrative settings.


In an administrative role, a Geriatric RN Staff Nurse acts as a liaison between physicians, patients, and their families. This role may include the following: fielding phone calls, referring physicians, clinical justification for insurance reimbursement of patient medication or procedures, and communicating lab results and patient education. They document patient information in Epic. They may be asked to cover other clinical support staff within the division.


This RN in a clinical role prepares and maintains exam rooms, and interacts directly with patients in the office completing tasks such as vital signs, administration of medications, and providing patient education. These tasks vary according to the department specialty which dictates the skills required. This RN would assist with setting up procedures, assisting with procedures, and directing patient flow. They document patient information in Epic. Provides nursing care, under supervision for patients according to established standards and practices.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.
  • Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
  • Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
  • Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
  • Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

$56,200.00 - $96,100.00 / Annually
