Why Virtual Economy? The Virtual Economy team owns all aspects of Robux, Roblox's Virtual Currency. Most of Roblox revenue flows through Robux systems.
As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer for the Virtual Economy, you will be the first ML hire in this team and will build new systems related to ranking and similar topics. You will report to Virtual Economy's Senior Engineering Manager.
The scope of Virtual Economy's team includes the several Purchasing surfaces, the Robux foundation systems, a platform to enable Purchasing Transactions and related reporting systems. Those systems enable developers to monetize their games on Roblox, earning hundreds of millions of dollars per year, while processing billions of transactions.
The ideal candidate is someone with extensive experience in Machine Learning, capable of working independently and the leadership skills to set direction as the Machine Learning practice grows within the team.
You Will: - Build experiences for a global community of over 70 million daily active users
- Develop Machine Learning systems that scale to billions of products and transactions in a reliable, secure manner.
- Work with product, data science, and design to help refine strategy and requirements.
- Contribute to overall system design, gather feedback, and iterate where necessary.
- Be a tech lead for the team and mentor junior engineers
- Help recruit future talent for the team
You Have: - BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, mathematics, machine learning, (computational) physics or statistics or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years experience with one or more of the following areas: search, recommendation, or advertising for a high-scale product.
- Experience building and working on end-to-end ML systems, including data analysis, ML modeling and data pipelines.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
Annual Salary Range
$283,780-$331,640 USD
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
