The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry's Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling has an opening for a Peer Gambling Recover Specialist to cover the central region of Maryland. The main purpose of this position is to provide recovery support for problem gambling services. The position is a non-clinical peer-based position working with persons who are at risk or receiving treatment for problem gambling disorders and their families. Peer Recovery Specialists assist with outreach efforts to the community to engage, educate and support individuals through the process of making life changes related to recovery from problem gambling-related issues and possibly other co-occurring disorders including substance use and mental health. Peers serve as coaches to model the process of recovery through their personal experience, while serving as an advocate for multiple pathways to recovery/wellness. This is a full-time, contractual position.
The Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling is a program at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dept. of Psychiatry and funded by the Behavioral Health Administration. The Center is also an affiliate of the National Council on Problem Gambling. The Center promotes healthy and informed choices to all Maryland residents regarding gambling and problem gambling through public awareness, training and education, prevention, technical assistance to the behavioral health care system, peer recovery support, research, and public policy. Primary Duties

Qualifications Education: High-school diploma or GED.
Experience: Two (2) years in community outreach, health care, research, and/or social services, and experience working with recovering and abstinent gambling addiction population.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Ability to interact with the public, health care providers, community organizations, and social service agencies. Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure.
Conditions of Employment
Employees in this job class may be required to use their personal automobile while conducting official business and possess a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or Commercial Class B Driver's License (CDL). Candidates selected for employment may be subjected to medical inquiries and/or medical examination to determine ability to perform the job. Employees in this job class may be required to successfully pass a police background check.
Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Hiring Range: $43,000 - $48,000, commensurate with education and experience.
