Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Organizational Development Specialist develops, implements, and administers initiatives and interventions designed to enhance organizational growth and relationships to support UConn managers and employees across the Storrs and regional campuses. The Specialist also liaisons and advises University leadership on these matters, as appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs needs assessments for staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the department, organization, or University, including climate assessments, 360 evaluations, and other assessments and interventions.
  • Designs and administers engagement surveys.
  • Evaluate areas of potential relationship improvement between managers and employees, identifying engagement gaps and obstacles among staff.
  • Designs and implements development and engagement programs for management and employees.
  • Review evaluations of development programs and initiatives, objectives, and accomplishments, and, as a result, identify and incorporate best practices and lessons learned into program plans.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of development programs in terms of employee accomplishments and performance.
  • Consult with management on performance, organizational, and leadership matters.
  • Conducts needs assessments to determine measures to enhance employee job performance and overall department/unit performance.
  • Partners with HR colleagues (e.g., HR consultants, OSD specialists) to achieve project, assessment, or intervention goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in psychology, business, leadership, human resources, humanities, or a related field.
  2. Four years of professional, related experience.
  3. Experience designing and implementing effective development or intervention programs.
  4. Experience facilitating difficult conversations or delivering sensitive content.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Proven effective interpersonal skills.
  7. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  8. Ability to evaluate development options and alternatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential, preferred.
