MANAGER / NURSING SIMULATION LAB & CLINICAL PLACEMENTS

Position Number: S-3547

Position Summary:

The Manager of the Nursing Simulation Skill Lab & Clinical Placements is responsible for the planning, coordination, and management of nursing labs and clinical placements for nursing students. This role ensures that students are provided with high-quality clinical and simulation experiences for competency-based practice. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Nursing Program within the School of Rehab and Medical Sciences.



Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Two years of experience in nursing education and clinical simulation.
Recent clinical experience in acute care, critical care, emergency, and/or medical surgical nursing for patients across the lifespan.
Current license with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN), or license eligible upon hire.
Basic Life Support Certification.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.



Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or equivalent program.
Experience in designing and implementing simulation-based education.
Experience with clinical placement of students.
Prior experience with simulation technology, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office 365.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and project management skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and clinical partners.



Duties & Responsibilities:

Simulation Lab Oversight:
Oversees the operation and management of nursing skill labs, including budget management and resource allocation.
Ensures that simulation and nursing education, including skill lab activities, align with the curriculum and with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation standards.
Reviews, evaluates, and provides recommendations on nursing skill media to ensure currency of concepts, supplies, and equipment.
Collaborates with faculty to integrate simulations into courses and prepare quality nursing skill lab environments, ensuring a seamless learning experience for students.
Maintains inventory and secures the necessary equipment and supplies for the nursing skill lab simulations, ensuring safety and security of all equipment and supplies.
Responsible for working with various departments to ensure proper maintenance of simulation equipment and supplies.
Assists with the development and revision of policies and procedures related to simulation and clinical educational experiences.
Collaborates with CMUs Interprofessional and Education Practice (IPEP) Center Director on activities and scheduling nursing simulation activities within the IPEP center.

Clinical Placement Management:
Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clinical placements for students.
Collaborates with clinical sites to arrange and confirm clinical placements for nursing students, ensuring appropriate rotation schedules.
Communicates with students, nursing program administration personnel, and faculty to confirm clinical site assignments.
Collaborates with faculty, nursing program administration personnel, and the designated Clinical Compliance Coordinator(s) of each site to identify and secure clinical placement site agreements.
Collaborates with academic stakeholders, nursing program administration personnel, and faculty to design, implement, deliver, sustain, and evaluate effective and efficient onboarding for clinical sites.
Manages numerous and frequent student communications to mitigate issues and barriers to student clinical placement.

Student and Faculty Support:
Serves as the primary point of contact for students and clinical faculty regarding lab activities, availability, and clinical placements.
Provides guidance to students and faculty regarding clinical site requirements, expectations, and lab experiences.
Works with faculty to develop materials, tools, and resources for both nursing skill labs and clinical environments.
Participates in designated nursing program committees.

Compliance and Documentation:
Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation guidelines, and institutional policies in both nursing skill labs and clinical placement processes.
Maintains all necessary documentation for nursing skill lab activities and clinical placements in accordance with accreditation standards.

Continuous Improvement:
Stays abreast of current trends in nursing education and clinical practice, including nursing skill lab and simulation technologies.
Participates in ongoing professional development and nursing education initiatives to enhance the quality of both lab and clinical placement programs.
Regularly evaluates and shares lab operational outcome reports with faculty to support nursing education quality improvement initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.
