Job Description

A healthcare facility in Altoona, PA, is seeking a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant to join their team. This part-time position requires primarily night coverage, with shifts running from 7 PM to 7 AM. The role involves covering 5-6 shifts per month and managing a wide variety of emergency department (ED) patients, focusing on treating lower-acuity cases.
As a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant, you will be responsible for providing care to ED patients, with a primary focus on minor complaints and lower-acuity cases. Your duties will include performing minor procedures such as incision and drainage (I&D) and laceration repairs. Additionally, you will conduct patient evaluations, complete histories, and develop treatment plans.

The role also includes performing some administrative tasks related to patient care. You will collaborate with attending physicians, who will primarily handle critically ill patients, STEMI, and stroke cases. While you are expected to see a broad range of patient complaints, you will not perform invasive procedures such as central lines, intubations, or lumbar punctures. Instead, your focus will remain on minor complaints and procedures, ensuring timely and high-quality care for patients.
This position primarily requires night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. The schedule includes 5-6 shifts per month, providing part-time flexibility while contributing to a supportive ED team environment.

Qualifications:

Certification Requirements: ACLS, BLS, CPR, and PALS.

Active PA license.

Proven experience in emergency medicine or a similar high-paced clinical environment.

Strong clinical and procedural skills in minor emergency care.
