The Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (MCDHH) is actively recruiting a Part-time (22.5 hours per week) Designated Interpreter to the MCDHH Commissioner. You will provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting/English services in this capacity. The Designated Interpreter is expected to support the Commission’s growth and advancement through positive and respectful interactions and relationships with agency heads, elected officials, staff, and individuals and entities in the community. The successful candidate accepts responsibility for knowledge of and adherence to the ethics of interpreting and the role of the interpreter, with particular emphasis applied to maintaining confidentiality. You must be flexible in an evolving work environment while primarily interpreting for the Commissioner at Commissioner level meetings and legislative hearings. You may also provide advanced interpretation in emergency situations that the Commissioner may be involved in or assigned. In addition, you may also provide a wide range of interpretation services for deaf and hard of hearing staff members by telephone, Teams or Zoom conversations, in-service training, staff and/or client meetings, and as assigned by Interpreter Referral Specialists in the executive and legislative branches of government.

Please note: This position is designated as "confidential", and as such is excluded from Bargaining Unit 8 under the SEIU collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Entrance Requirements :
At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience providing interpretation and/or transliteration services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population after successful completion of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Screening.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
