The Health Career Navigator and Pipeline Coordinator (HCN-PC) serves within Metropolitan State University of Denvers Gina and Frank Day Health Institute, working with a diverse student population to prepare them for careers in the mental health workforce. This role collaborates closely with K-12 school districts and students to strengthen and expand the pipeline for mental health professionals in schools.

This is a grant-funded position reporting to the Associate Director. The project involves launching a new format for a Health Scholars program, which is structured as a three-tiered initiative. In its first year, the program focuses on two tiers: working with junior-level students to deliver a Health Scholars curriculum and coordinating graduate students in mental health internships within school districts. In its second year and following years, the program will expand to include a third tier, introducing a Health Scholars Leadership curriculum. This will engage senior undergraduate students as participants in the Peer Health Exchange program or as peer leaders in additional Health Scholars initiatives.

The HCN-PC plays a critical role in recruiting students, providing academic advising, delivering resources, and coordinating services across all program tiers. This includes designing and implementing the Health Scholars curriculum and leadership training. The position requires significant collaboration with both internal and external partners. Additionally, the HCN-PC collects and tracks data, reports on program outcomes, and monitors field placements for internships and post-graduate career trajectories.

Responsibilities

Program Development - 30%

• Coordinate mental health-focused internships for senior undergraduate and graduate students by collaborating with internal departments and external school district partners.
• Design and deliver workshop curricula for all program tiers aligned with program goals.
• Create leadership training and mentoring materials for senior and graduate students.
• Prepare workshop materials, including presentations, handouts, and exercises.
• Coordinate mentors and the students they work with in the other tiered programs.
• Plan, support, and attend program-related events on and off campus.
• Support academic conference presentations and stakeholder meetings.
• Assist with data collection, record-keeping, program evaluation, and grant compliance.
• Support event planning and execution for Health Institute initiatives.
• Lead specific projects as assigned by Health Institute leadership.
• Build and formalize partnerships with local and rural school districts.

Student Support Services - 40%

• Provide life-design advising to help students develop career plans.
• Deliver services that support the academic success of all health scholars.
• Offer case management and individualized educational plans for health scholars.
• Share information about career opportunities with current and incoming students.
• Act as a liaison between external organizations, departments, and health scholar students.
• Match students skills and interests with external opportunities, schools, and mentors.
• Provide resources to support retention, graduation, and career readiness.
• Organize community-building events for health scholar students.
• Advise students on course selection, tutoring, graduation planning, and post-graduation pathways, emphasizing behavioral and mental health careers in K-12 public schools.

Recruitment - 10%

• Conduct outreach to recruit students into health scholar programs.
• Build collaborative relationships with academic departments, advisors, and graduate programs.
• Coordinate events and activities for current and prospective health scholar students.
• Ensure grant compliance throughout the recruitment process.
• Review and assess student applications based on eligibility criteria.
• Serve as the primary contact for prospective students and organize annual cohort orientations.

Health Institute Planning and Collaboration - 10%

• Contribute to curriculum development and delivery for Health Institute events such as the Navigate Your Health Career Summit, workshops, and seminars.
• Plan and execute orientations for health scholar students.
• Support Health Institute events, activities, and celebrations.
• Collaborate on grant writing, data collection, and conference proposals.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Health Institute leadership.

Grant Oversight, Management, and Supervision - 10%

• Administer, collect, and track student data to meet grant requirements.
• Complete required IRB CITI training.
• Assist in writing and submitting grant reports and updates.
• Support grant budget management and compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
• Experience working with diverse populations including non- traditional students, students of color, and first generation college students
• Demonstrated experience working with students in an academic or community-based setting, such as a recruiter, advisor, case manager, educational counselor, career coach, mentor, or teacher

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in higher education, human services, or related field
• Experience developing and presenting training or workshop curriculum
• Currently pursuing a masters degree in a behavioral health related field
• Experience with academic advising or coaching
• Experience working within the K-12 public school system
• Experience working with external partners and/or health agencies
• Casework or case management with diverse populations
• Experience in grant work
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/duties and responsibilities
• Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing

Schedule Information

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Exempt
• Hours: Monday " Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
• Evenings and Weekend Work: Occasionally as needed
• Schedule: Hybrid schedule requiring in person work with the flexibility of some remote work opportunities (subject to supervisor approval)
• Travel: Some local travel may be needed occasionally

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The full salary range for this position is $45,300 - $68,000. The anticipated hiring range is $57,500 - $62,500.

This is a five year, grant funded position that is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
