Job Description

This is a field biologist position and throughout the year field duties include: operating adult and juvenile fish traps; marking fish with various tags/tracking fish movements with PIT and radio telemetry equipment; measuring presence and abundance of salmonids in the wild (e.g. snorkel electrofishing and spawning surveys); collection of water quality and quantity measurements; and hatchery smolt quality measurements. Incumbent will participate as the Education and outreach coordinator for the monitoring & Evaluation Project for the Hood River Production Program. Field trips and inclass room lessons will be implemented to engage youth with a focus on tribal culture salmon biology and watershed health. Incumbent will also assist with data summary data analysis technical report writing along with other Hood River projects including stream habitat restoration to help fulfill the CTWS mission to restore salmon and steelhead fisheries in the Hood River basin.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in fisheries science or closely related field and at least 3 years of related experience. Familiarity with Pacific Northwest salmon life history and habitat requirements. Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable by the Tribe. Good interpersonal skills Able to follow detailed directions both written and oral. Ability to work in the field office and public environments in all weather conditions with supervision. Required to receive and pass preemployment drug/alcohol screening a background check with Federal Tribal and State Law Enforcement.
