The California Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve is seeking a limited term Education Coordinator to continue our work to connect students with the wonders of wetlands, woodlands, and the world around them. This position engages kids of all ages and leads a diverse team that helps educators and visitors learn about the local natural communities and history of the Reserve. • Train and lead staff and volunteers who perform K-12 and college tours, programs, and provide teacher support services. Design and maintain teacher resources.
• Develop and deliver staff and volunteer training's, including an annual interpretive course for docents.
• Manage and implement K-12 environmental education curriculum aligned with State and National standards.
• Greet and interact with Elkhorn Slough Reserve visitors in the Visitor Center and provide information while working the desk.
• Engage the local and broader communities through online material and outreach events.
• Assist with guided stewardship opportunities for youth and public audiences.
In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.
Fish and Wildlife Interpreter II:
This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.
During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions, walk on uneven and unstable surfaces; travel on strenuous trails; repetitive moving of supplies or other physically challenging duties are common. Ability to drive state vehicle. Ability to lead volunteer field work on restoration sites.
