Major Responsibilities:
The Deputy Executive Director assists the Executive Director-Treasurer in furthering the MTA’s organizational priorities. The Deputy ED oversees specific divisions and projects as assigned by the EDT. This role includes collaborating with the Human Resources Director and the Equal Opportunity Council to develop policies and strategies that support the MTA's commitment to economic, social, and racial justice, while also promoting a positive workplace culture.

Essential Job Functions:
Governance and Administration

  • Supervise and manage the designated divisions and projects assigned by the ED-T. 
  • Shares responsibilities as determined in collaboration with the ED-T and serves as the ED-T’s designee.

Equal Opportunity Council Advisor

  • Advises the ED-T on policy implementation and in collaboration with the HRD provides reports to the EOC. 
  • Monitors employment activities for compliance with policies and provides guidance on affirmative action programs that promote diversity and equal opportunity.
  • Reports on any complaints related to policies, including those filed with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). 
  • Partners with HRD to conduct training on policy responsibilities and to resolve employee issues in line with MTA policies and applicable laws.
  • Collaborates with the HRD, managers, and staff unions to identify recruitment sources and monitors internal hiring and advancement opportunities, reporting findings to the ED-T and the EOC. 
  • Assists HRD in developing and communicating HR policies to the EOC.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and the board of directors.
  • Significant leadership experience, preferably in a union with a large staff.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering belonging.
  • Demonstrated commitment to MTA goals.
  • Strategic thinker with strong project management and collaboration skills across departments/divisions.
  • Proven experience in advancing economic, social, and racial justice.
  • Ability to lead teams, provide strategic guidance, and maintain high performance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related apps.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Valid driver’s license for occasional travel to offsite meetings.
