Salary Dependent Upon Qualifications and Experience Job Summary: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Subject to call-back and/or coverage due toEmergencies) Supervises and manages the Communications staff and Municipal Lock Up. Collaborates with Ambulance services. Maintains compliance with policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the well-being of all Public Safety responders and the public. Performs Public Safety Telecommunicator duties as required. Major Responsibilities: Directs the activities of assigned staff; coordinates, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities; participates in the recruitment and selection of staff; conducts performance evaluations; coordinates scheduling of staff to ensure proper operational coverage. Oversees personnel matters related to Communications staff. Assists with the development of Communications center infrastructure as needed. Assigns, reviews, and provides training to Public Safety Telecommunicators and ensures required annual training obligations are met. Oversees the Communications center operations, including receiving and transmitting messages. Works with other divisions, outside agencies, and the public. Ensures proper training is conducted for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) dispatching, including protocol related to Standard Operating Procedures and understanding of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). Maintains Communication center records of all calls for service, including incoming calls, radio communications, and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) reports. Assists with the investigation of complaints related to the Public Safety Telecommunicator staff; resolves issuesand undertakes disciplinary action as required. Provides the public with requested information, instructions, and assistance. Ensures compliance related to state regulatory inspections. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures. Performs duties of Communications center staff as required and as necessary in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Assists Support Division Commander with the development of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; ensures compliance and effectively implements policies and procedures; attends and conducts meetings and training sessions as required. Attends required training related to new technology, operations, and essential job functions Complies with city, state, and federal regulations related to the City jail. Ensures jailers meet all training standards. Other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required. Minimum Qualifications Required Knowledge: High School diploma or GED Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a supervisor/administrator in a communications center setting or similar Valid Class D Oklahoma operator license Ability to pass comprehensive background investigation Knowledge of personnel laws, policies, and regulations Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Knowledge of municipal police operations Knowledge of municipal fire operations Knowledge of municipal EMS operations Knowledge of the criminal justice system Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal law enforcement Skill in the use of computers and various software programs Skill in the training and supervision of personnel Skill in oral and written communication Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes Ability of call screening techniques and phone etiquette Preferred Requirements 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a communications center or equivalent Associates Degree or higher in Business Administration or a related field. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent judgement, excellent oral and written communication, and strong interpersonal skills as it relates to Public Safety personnel, stakeholders, and citizens.
