POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Outdoor Sportsman Group Channel Engineer will provide full-service maintenance and engineering support to our television broadcast center located in Centennial, CO. Equipment consists of state-of-the-art television broadcast equipment, providing multiple channels to customers via satellite and streaming. Responsibilities include research, recommend, adjust, test, configure and commission Broadcast & IT systems. Candidate will also engineer solutions to existing equipment that brings projects to completion and ensures the highest quality possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Data smart engineer. Networking, systems integration skills, Windows, Mac and Linux experience.
  • Be the first line of engineering support for master control, edit suites, storage, graphics etc.
  • SOPs- Update documentation such as standard operating procedures for the Support Group.
  • Projects & Capital Planning – Contribute to the project planning effort. Evaluate and recommend infrastructure components, software, and tools.
  • Emergency- Availability to participate and manage 24×7 responses to urgent facility needs.
  • Communicates with fellow engineers to ensure tasks are completed satisfactorily.
  • Work directly with Channel reps to define project priorities, scheduling and asset allocation to quickly address and resolve issues.
  • Ability to bridge between traditional Broadcast Engineering and emerging IT disciplines.
  • Knowledge of project management solutions, production hardware and software including, but not limited to, storage, asset management, archive, audio and remote/field production tools.
  • Ability to work shifts in support of a 24x7x365 environment.
  • Provides lead technical guidance and support for channel projects and initiatives.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports and facilitates content aggregation, edit operations, transcoding and distribution of OSG content through fiber, streaming and satellite.
  • Ensure broadcast operations compliance with FCC and CRTC guidelines and regulations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Ability to trouble-shoot equipment problems and determine and execute solutions in a fast paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of audio and video equipment, repair and maintenance in a studio or live remote environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Excellent intra-departmental problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite. Working knowledge of project production sharing and scheduling software such as Shotgun or similar. Project sharing software such as Basecamp or similar. Working knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Working knowledge of digital editing, audio systems, broadcast interface, RF systems, Chyron, Channel Box and Prime.
  • Ability to read AutoCAD and complex wiring schematics.
  • Serve as the lead technical engineer for long term projects and enhancements.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

Education or Formal Training:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years Television broadcast experience, specialized electronics training certification or degree in electronics or broadcasting, preferred.

Experience:

  • Two to four years experience with live productions, post production audio and video edit
  • Experience with Word and Excel software, preferred.

Material and Equipment Used:

  • General office equipment to include phone, fax, computer/keyboard, copier, etc.
  • Meters, soldering equipment, lifts, hand tools, test measurement equipment, etc.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • Stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl, reach with hands and arms up to 2/3 of time.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. up to 2/3 of time.
  • Moderate to very loud noise.
  • Clear vision at 20”, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and identify and distinguish colors.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts up to 2/3 of time.
  • Work in high, precarious places, near toxic or caustic chemicals, in outdoor weather conditions, and with risk of electrical shock, up to 1/3 of time.
