Job Description

The Department of Health Policy and Management at the Mailman School of Public Health is recruiting a full-time Associate Research Scientist with an exceptional background and skillset in behavioral sciences (ideally social psychology). This position is limited based on grant funding. The focus of the research is behavioral interventions that aim to reduce economic inequality, with an emphasis on the concept of "positive deviance".

Essential Functions

The Associate Research Scientist will be tasked with critical work on NSF grants that will involve secondary data analyses from financial and healthcare institutions as well as testing new interventions. The Associate Research Scientist will also have an opportunity to lead early career researchers in designing replications. The Associate Research Scientist must have excellent quantitative skills (R, Python) and general knowledge of data management in research contexts. The candidate must have also completed policy training at graduate level, ideally as part of a master (or equivalent) program in behavioral, decision, or social sciences. For matters of research coordination, it is strongly preferred that the candidate has extensive experience in working with academic institutions in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany. The ideal candidate should be beginning a career in academic research. -95%

  • PhD in psychology, economics, or other behavioral science discipline with a clear component of training in quantitative analysis and behavioral theory (ideally linking topics such as economic policy, decision-making, and population well-being).

  • Ability to work independently but also within a collaboration. Must be able to write and analyze large datasets without the need for constant supervision, but also work on feedback and input from Principal Investigator.
