Overview:
The Associate Structural Engineer performs entry level civil and structural engineering work related to energy projects executed by CB&I. They shall design and analyze terminal infrastructure such as roadways, steel structures, concrete structures, and foundations to ensure compliance with project requirements and local regulations. Preparation of specifications, layouts, formal calculations, sketches, material take-offs, reports, and other construction documents is necessary. The role reports to the Civil/Structural Engineering Manager and routinely interacts with other discipline engineers and drafters.
Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with company work processes and procedures.
- Be able to understand written and verbal instructions. Implement instructions and feedback from leadership and supervision.
- Attend meetings with team members regarding project assignments and coordination.
- Collaborate with team members and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless technical compatibility and completion of engineering tasks safely, on-time, within budget, and meeting all quality requirements.
- Read and understand portions of the project contract, with emphasis on civil-structural scope of work.
- Read and comprehend relevant project codes and standards applicable to the country in which the project is located. Familiarity with International Building Code and ASCE 7 is required.
- Read and understand project design criteria.
- Gather supporting documents and information for assigned tasks.
- Review factual and interpretative soil reports for projects to understand site specific soil conditions and to develop safe, serviceable, and economical foundation systems.
- Perform structural steel and reinforced concrete design and analysis for non-building structures. Familiarity with ACI and AISC standards is required.
- Perform foundation design and analysis. Capable of engineering shallow and deep type foundations.
- Prepare civil, concrete, and structural specifications, formal calculations, design drawings, and bills.
- Review and check civil, concrete, and structural steel specifications, calculations, models, drawings, and other documents prepared by other engineers and designers.
- Prepare technical documents for requisitioning and subcontracts packages.
- Review bids from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure technical compliance with project requirements.
- Review documentation submitted by suppliers and subcontractors.
- Travel to jobsite and participate in walkdowns.
Provide construction and/or commissioning support to resolve civil/structural related issues or problems.
Qualifications:
- 0 to 5 years of relevant work experience in structural engineering.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
- Professional Engineering License is not required, but possession of licensure is strongly valued.
- Good to strong verbal and written communication skills. English is required. Other languages are beneficial.
- Functional experience with Microsoft Office applications.
