We are seeking an Assistant Winemaker that is focused, energetic and performance-driven to join our team. We are a small winery and an even smaller production team. We are all required to wear many hats while supporting the needs of the entire business. This position works directly with the Winemaker to ensure daily, weekly and monthly cellar and lab operations are completed timely and efficiently. A strong attention to detail, organizational skills and team player/coach are a must. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead and manage cellar operations and team members.
• Conducting wine analysis, vineyard grape sample processing, and analysis
• Maintain an organized, clean, and sanitized facility including lab, tanks, hoses, pumps, and fittings.
• Cellar operations including racking, transfers, barrel work, and various forms of filtration.
• Maintain and manage inventory for barrels, bottling supplies, and other winemaking materials
• Oversee seasonal staff hiring and training, ensuring they align with our culture and values.
• Manage and update company safety program.
• Order, track, and receive lab materials and chemical inventory.
• Data entry and work order writing when needed.
• Following standard operating procedures; writing or editing procedures.
• Facility and equipment maintenance.
• Basic understanding of winery maintenance is a plus
• Willing to work on facilities and grounds maintenance projects
• Represent the brand in the market and community.
• Attend offsite events such as auctions, dinners, and pouring events. Select winery event weekends.
• Any other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
• Associates Degree or Bachelor of Science in Enology or related science degree with Enology and Viticulture coursework.
• Minimum of 3 years of winemaking-related experience.
• Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft suite applications.
• Knowledge of wine tracking software.
• Able to sit and/or walk and stand for most of the day: twist, bend, crouch, extend and have full range of motion in all varieties of physical movement.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs., or a 9L case of wine.
• Able to work in adverse conditions: hot/cold weather, rain, concrete floors, walking stairs, etc.
• Flexibility to work weekends and off hours when needed.
• Proficient at forklift operation.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Compensation and Benefits
• Staring $65,000-75,000/yr. DOE (non-exempt)
• 2 weeks paid vacation and 9 annual paid holidays
