Position Summary Assistant Professor Addiction Neuroscience Indiana University Indianapolis Psychology Department The Department of Psychology at Indiana University Indianapolis (IU Indianapolis) invites applications for an assistant professor, tenure-track position in Addiction Neuroscience, supporting Psychology and Neuroscience graduate and undergraduate programs, to begin no later than August 1, 2025. The program seeks an individual who will expand and complement the Addiction Neuroscience program's basic and translational research efforts in alcohol and drug abuse, addictions, and neuroplasticity. We seek applicants who fit well with, and bring novel cutting-edge approaches complementing, the program's strengths in the behavioral, cognitive, neurobiological, genetic, developmental, and therapeutic aspects of addictive behavior. Applicants should also bring expertise suited for collaborative initiatives serving the health and life science research mission of the IU Indianapolis campus. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related discipline and will be expected to maintain an active, externally funded research program while being committed to graduate and undergraduate education. All applicants should provide evidence of strong potential to establish a successful independent program of research that is competitive for external funding. Prior teaching experience in Psychology and/or Neuroscience is preferred. IU Indianapolis is located in downtown Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana. Indianapolis is the 16th largest city in the nation and home to outstanding cultural institutions and several professional sports teams situated in a diverse regional economy. IU Indianapolis is Indiana's premier urban public research institution, enrolling over 22,000 students across 16 schools ranging from Business and Liberal Arts to Engineering and Technology. The Department of Psychology, situated in the IU Indianapolis School of Science, is comprised of 19 full-time faculty, 700+ undergraduate majors (B.A. and B.S. in Psychology), and approximately 55 graduate students enrolled in programs in Industrial/Organizational (M.S.), Clinical Psychology (Ph.D.), and Addiction Neuroscience (Ph.D.). The Department also supports an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Neuroscience (B.S.) with 150+ majors (see and ). Consistent with our health and life science focus, many faculty in the department have strong connections with the IU School of Medicine ( ) on the same campus, and pursue strong, externally funded, programmatic research, and in particular, many Addiction Neuroscience faculty have strong connections to the Indiana Alcohol Research Center ( ) which is in its 36th year of continuous funding by the NIH/NIAAA. Department faculty - including Addiction Neuroscience faculty - also have close ties with two new research institutes on campus, the IU Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing (H2W) and the IU Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute (CBATI). H2W will foster collaborative research at the intersection of health, life science and technology to meet community needs and improve health outcomes in the State of Indiana ( ). CBATI will drive interdisciplinary bioscience and technology research and collaboration within IU, including with researchers at the IU School of Medicine, and with industry partners across the State ( ).
