SNA International, a world leader in forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence, is currently looking for an Analytical Toxicologist 3 – Technical Director.

Critical Work Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Supervision of analysts and senior scientific staff in the following techniques:
    • Advanced knowledge of immunoassay methodology
    • Solid Phase and Liquid/ Liquid Drug Extractions
    • Advanced Knowledge of mass spectrometry and compound fragmentation
    • Advanced Knowledge of Quantitative Analysis
    • Advanced Knowledge of Instrumental Analysis
    • Mass Spectrometry (Advanced)
    • Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (Advanced)
    • Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (Advanced)
    • Tandem Mass Spectrometry (Advanced)
  • Provides supervision and direction of technical and support personnel for the SFTDTL, DDRP Surveillance, and Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR) programs.
  • Evaluate instruments, extraction techniques, analysis protocols, and data review.
  • Maintains an accurate written record of all analyses performed and ensures proper archiving of records.
  • Ensures specimens are correctly received into the laboratory, an accurate chain of custody is established and maintained, specimens are accessioned, and specimens are aliquoted for subsequent testing and logged into the LIMS.
  • Review data for compliance, accuracy, and completeness to ensure that all reported results meet the technical and administrative requirements of the laboratory outlined in the SOPs.
  • Performs evaluation of laboratory SOPs and ensures laboratory compliance with those standards. Recommend changes to laboratory management as needed.
  • Participates in Laboratory Analysis Programs including:
    • Routine instrument maintenance
    • Analysis of Quality Control specimens
    • Preparation for laboratory inspections by Inspectors from certifying and accrediting agencies. 
    • Responsible for maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment in operating condition and reporting problems and possible solutions to the Chief, SFTDTL
  • Leads research projects and functions as section supervisor, team leader, or technical advisor on multiple projects as assigned.
  • Maintains logs of analyses performed, equipment problems and solutions, freezer and refrigerator temperature logs, and equipment operation logs
  • Maintains the laboratory in a mission-ready status; this requires analysts to be aware of existing and potential problems concerning laboratory safety, equipment operation, supply readiness, and other critical laboratory functions.
  • Handles hazardous materials and hazardous waste, ensuring proper safety precautions are taken in storing and disposing of these materials.
  • Perform authorship in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation of scientific data.
  • Provides personnel management and work ethic traits required to maintain good team cohesion and to set a good working example
  • Subject matter expert in Forensic Toxicology for the DoD Drug Testing Program.  Serves as a consultant for this program, including on-site analytical troubleshooting and method development. Serve as an inspector for the DoD accreditation program.
  • Performs certifying and administrative review of completed results.
  • Serve as a staff faculty member for training courses sponsored by the Division. These courses are tailored for specific audiences, including military drug testing staff members, investigative agents, forensic pathology residents, and student interns.

 

Minimum Requirements:   

  • PhD degree from an accredited university in toxicology, biochemistry, or physical or biological science and possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in forensic toxicology; or 
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in toxicology, biochemistry, or a physical or biological science degree and possess a minimum of 4 years of experience in forensic toxicology
  • Documented professional and in-house training and/or experience in the forensic applications of analytical toxicology (such as court testimony, research, participation in continuing education programs, and/or peer review of appropriate manuscripts in the field), including knowledge of evidentiary procedures that apply when toxicological specimens are acquired, processed, and stored and when toxicological data are submitted as part of a legal proceeding. 
  • Maintain technical expertise in the science of forensic toxicology by regularly reviewing publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. 

 

Must be a US citizen able to complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NAC-I) background investigation.
